LafargeHolcim Bangladesh sales and profits surged in the second quarter of 2021 (April to June) thanks to the launch of a new aggregates business and the inclusion of new products in its portfolio.
The multinational cement manufacturer’s net sales rose 79 percent to Tk 473 crore in the quarter, from Tk 264 crore in the same period a year earlier.
Its profits jumped 248% to 111 crore Tk, or 32 crore Tk. During the period, its earnings per share were Tk 0.96, or Tk 0.28 year on year.
“Our Holcim Water Protect, our Geocycle sustainable waste management solution and our new aggregates business have given a solid boost,” said Rajesh Surana, CEO of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh.
The company’s revenue from the overall sale was Tk72 crore, which was a new form of revenue in the quarter as it started the business last January.
Aggregates are a broad category of coarse particulate matter used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates.
The company installed the crushing unit with ancillary equipment on the premises of its existing integrated clinker and cement manufacturing plant in Chhatak, Sunamganj.
It has the capacity to produce 12 lakh tons of clear size aggregate per year. He invested Tk 40.1 crore, which came from the company’s equity, the disclosure added.

The cement company’s clinker sales were Tk 26 crore in the last quarter compared to Tk 16 crore in the same period the previous year. Its gray cement sales were Tk 100 crore in the quarter from Tk 76 crore a year earlier, according to the quarterly financial report.
The company managed to manage a significant portion of the increased input cost through efficient pricing, the company said in the press release.
The company’s pursuit of strengthening the digital footprint, maximizing reach by implementing innovative channels, unveiling a new look for Supercrete, implementing consistent profitability programs, all have played a very important role, he added.
