Kim asks farmers to stop black market sales and address ‘critical food issues’

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called on the country’s farmers to end illegal black market sales, cut their hair and address “critical food issues”, according to state media. reports Sunday at a farmers’ union convention held last week as the country continues to focus on agriculture for the new year amid apparent shortages.
Kim sent a long list of demands largely centered on labor ideology and lofty food production goals in a letter which was read aloud at the 9th Congress of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea (UAWK), which was held from January 27 to 29, according to the party Rodong Sinmoun. But Kim did not attend the event.
