Georgia-Pacific opens two new facilities to manufacture recyclable padded envelopes for e-commerce

ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Georgia-Pacific today announced the official opening of new facilities in McDonough, Georgia, and Jonestown, Pennsylvania, to produce an innovative recyclable paper padded envelope. Combined with the recently added manufacturing capacity of a third production line at the company’s Phoenix-area facility, Georgia-Pacific has increased its production of recyclable mail by 350% to help meet growing demand. more sustainable e-commerce packaging options.
GP has been supplying the recyclable envelopes to Amazon since 2020 and will now have sufficient capacity to serve other e-commerce customers looking for a cost-effective alternative to plastic envelopes or boxes. GP mailers offer protection in a lightweight, flexible design, helping shippers save money on freight. Shippers are also designed to be easy to pack, which can improve warehouse efficiency.

The innovative envelope combines a unique expansive material between layers of kraft paper and meets SFI Certified Sourcing requirements. The cushioning material is very strong, protecting the contents of the package all the way from warehouse to consumer. GP offers recyclable envelopes in four sizes with external dimensions ranging from 7 inches by 9 inches to 14 inches by 18 inches.
GP’s padded paper packaging has received a widely recyclable label from How2Recycle® based on lab testing at a recycled fiber mill, meaning it can be dropped off at any paper collection point or corrugated cardboard, which for most consumers is their curbside recycling bin. The mailer helped GP win the American Forest & Paper Association’s 2021 Innovation in Sustainability Award.
