Aleph Farms Hires Head of Regulatory Affairs Pre-Global Commercialization
New head of regulatory affairs and quality assurance will help company accelerate time to market amid growing consumer demand and advancing regulatory environment
REHOVOT, Israel, June 28, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aleph Farms, the first cultured meat company to grow steaks directly from non-genetically modified animal cells, today announced the arrival of Yifat Gavriel as Chief Regulatory Affairs and quality assurance. In this role, Gavriel will play a critical role in bringing new Aleph Farms products to global markets. The establishment of a regulatory approval process for cultured meat is underway in many countries around the world, with the Singapore Food Agency being the first to approve it as an ingredient in 2020.
“Yifat brings valuable expertise to the team, and we are thrilled to have her join us at such a critical time in our journey to market,” said Didier Toubia, CEO and co-founder of Aleph Farms. “In our work with regulatory agencies around the world, we have seen first-hand how they encourage innovation and have been willing to pursue transparent dialogues with us and the broader cultured meat industry. The 6 next 12 months will prove critical as we work closely with regulators to launch our first product in key markets.”
Gavriel joins us from the position of Regulatory Affairs Manager at Omrix Biosurgery Israel (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson), where she managed the entire end-to-end biologics portfolio, including biologics, combination products and medical devices. She has over 15 years of experience in quality assurance and regulatory affairs management and has established and ensured product quality compliance in 10 different manufacturing locations around the world, marketing products in over 20 different regions.
“Joining Aleph Farms represents an exciting opportunity and challenge at this stage of my career, and I look forward to working with Didier and the rest of the team to ensure our quality management meets the highest international standards” , said Gavriel. “Cultivated meat is a great complement to sustainably farmed animal products and alternative proteins. It is now about ensuring that the various regulatory needs are met to bring our products to consumers around the world in a timely manner.
Aleph Farms is in close contact with several regulatory bodies around the world as it pursues plans for the market entry of its first product, a cultured thin-cut beef steak. Regulatory review of future products and production processes will go through different frameworks based on formalized regulatory pathways by each specific country or region.
